The article “The amphibians and reptiles of Luzon Island, Philippines, VIII: the herpetofauna of Cagayan and Isabela Provinces, northern Sierra Madre Mountain Range”, recently published in the open access, peer reviewed journal Zookeys, has gained incredible popularity through uploading all images to Wikimedia Commons.

Thanks to the rich, high resolution illustrations featured in the article, all figures have been since ported to Wikimedia Commons (the media repository used by Wikipedias, Wikispecies and their sister projects), and till date, they have been used on well over 300 pages across some 30 languages.

The same Images are also automatically exported by the journal on the day of its publication to Encyclopedia of Life and the Wiki species descriptions catalogue Species-ID.

All authors are encouraged to submit high resolution quality figures and videos to be featured in their articles and achieve the same level of dissemination.
